Update From Our Founder - Claire Flinders

This month I spent a week working in Cornwall at a co working space so that my daughter could take a week’s work experience at Newquay Activity Centre, getting involved in lessons including surfing, paddleboarding and generally helping the instructors to get kit ready and clean the changing rooms etc. While we were there we were able to get involved in a charity event to help raise funds for a defibrillator and I was able to have a go at Coasteering as part of this which is an activity I have always wanted to try. I’m not going to lie it took a bit of courage to launch myself off the rocks into the sea but it was honestly one of the best things I have done. Life should be all about challenging yourself and also helping others and by taking part in charity events it is a great way to achieve both of these!
Team News
Both Paige and Lucy are progressing well through their AAT studies. Paige is now on Level 4 and Lucy has recently passed one of her exams with a score of over 80% which is a great achievement. At Mojo we offer day release to all of our team members wanting to study and progress in their accounting career. We also have 2 more team members joining us in the coming weeks and more will be shared on this next month!
Work Updates
We are working with several businesses now as their finance team. This is working really well as we really become part of the business, can offer strategic advice and identify opportunities to save tax and costs as we go through the year. Work is also progressing well on the self assessment tax returns for the year ending 5th April 2022. We are well ahead of schedule compared to previous years. We still have until 31st January 2023 to file them all but if you have yet to send us your information please get it to us as soon as you can.
Register a trust as a trustee by 1st Sept 2022
You must register your trust with HMRC: to make sure you and the trust comply with anti-money laundering regulations if you need to get a Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR) — for example, for filling in a Self Assessment tax return for the trust, even if the trust is on the exemption list
You must register if the trust becomes, or is liable for any of the following taxes: Capital Gains Tax Income Tax Inheritance Tax Stamp Duty Land Tax Stamp Duty Reserve Tax Land and Buildings Transaction Tax (in Scotland) Land Transaction Tax (in Wales) The following types of trusts must register even if they have no tax liability: all UK express trusts — unless they are specifically excluded non-UK express trusts, like trusts that: acquire land or property in the UK have at least one trustee resident in the UK and enter into a ‘business relationship’ within the UK.
The deadline for registrations is on or before 1 September 2022.
